Thank you for posting information about UP Vet Clinic and P &B Pet Clinic contact numbers. I have a labrador that needs biopsy for a lump found on the side of his neck. He has been through a lot when he got poisoned from a contaminated dog food released in the Asian market a few years back. Our medical bill not including the maintenance medication was around 25K. We were able to get it reimbursed in the end after a lot of paperwork and patience. I was a little apprehensive to take him to UP Vet since a newly graduate vet's negligence and inexperience killed our puppy 2 years ago when we took him in for immunization shots. Also, I am afraid that we might have to spend a lot of money again in a time when we can't afford a lot of extras. Thank you again and God bless.

@zafirlukast: Don't go during weekends. The vet there says that weekends are when most people go there to have their pets looked at.

Hi, I've been hearing good raves about UP VetMed clinic and i've been planning to take my puppy there for her skin problem. Would anyone know what their clinic hours are? I know the students travel all the way from Los Banos so I don't expect them to have long clinic hours. Whats the best time to take the dogs there? Do they have long lines like most "people hospitals" do?

@deanne: Consultation costs around P100 at Horseshoe pet clinic. I'm not sure about Xray (Sheero didn't have one kasi), but I'm pretty sure they do lab tests since Sheero had to go through at least two blood tests. I've also tried Animal House already, medyo mahal sa kanila. My dog Harry had been confined there for about two days, and our bill was around P3,000 already. And to think they just gave him a few shots and an IV. Sheero was confined at Horseshoe longer (around 5 or 6 days I think) and went through a lot of shots, medications, IV, tests, etc. (she even stayed in an incubator), but our bill didn't even exceed 5k.

If you're on a budget, I suggest you just have the consultancy first since it doesn't cost much. Ask them how much the tests will cost you and how you can lower the costs at the same time do the best for your dog. Just be honest with them that you're on a budget, they'll understand. Sometimes Dr. Froilan or Dr. Leah ask how you got there or something. If they do, just tell them you were referred there by Sheero and Shantee's owner.

hi! how much on the average does a trip to the vet cost at horseshoe pet clinic? my shih tzu's sick, i think. i brought him to dr. pangan in kalayaan ave. he's great and really nice. the rates are really low (can be considered cheap) but it's too far for me. Do they have lab tests and xrays like animal house? i'm on a student budget so i don't want to get "subo" when i bring my pup to the vet. thanks!

@Xtine: I honestly can't remember the name of the vet at UP Diliman, we bring our dogs to P & B Horseshoe Pet Clinic more often now. We only brought Sheero to UP Vet once. Although it was a pleasant experience, we had to bring Sheero to Horseshoe when she was in a critical condition because UP Vet doesn't admit dogs for confinement during semestral break.

Sheero passed away at the P & B Horseshoe Pet Clinic, but I can tell you honestly that we were not traumatized. On the other hand, we actually trusted Horseshoe vet more, and brought our dogs there after Sheero's passing. Sheero had a heart attack (a risk to the blood transfusion she had which we were aware of before going through the procedure). We visited her everyday, and it was pretty evident that she was well-taken care of. They even had people staying watch in the clinic 24/7 so the vets would be alerted immediately in case of emergency. Sheero even stayed in an incubator, which gave her heat 24/7. And best thing about it, our hospital bill wasn't very expensive considering the treatment, medication and TLC Sheero received. P & B Horseshoe Pet Clinic is honestly the first private vet clinic I've tried that actually cared about their canine patients not just about the money.

I would strongly recommend you visit P & B Horseshoe Pet Clinic (it's along Katipunan Avenue). Look for Dr. Leah or Dr. Froilan. You might even see Sheero's pictures there :) (we gave the vets a thank you card and a small collage of Sheero's photos with a poem)

The best thing about it is that students or interns are motivated to know and research everything about the case of your pet. They were given ample time to study the case and present it in a way everyone will benefit. Definitely not profit oriented.

@Bradwin: You can contact them at 928-54-36. I'm not sure if that works though, I just got that number from the letterhead of Sheero's prescription. I don't think they do home service, you might need to bring your dog to UP. You can ask them though.
