A Dog’s Purpose: A Novel for Humans

I was at Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street yesterday, just hanging out and looking for a new book to buy. That’s a rare occurrence nowadays, with all the stuff I needed to do for work. A blue book caught my eye — it had a dog on it 🙂

I didn’t expect I’d be buying it — I made a list of books I’d buy the night before, all of them fantasy, sci-fi, or young adult fiction. Light reading stuff. But one look at the book’s summary, I knew it was for me!

A Dog’s Purpose: A Novel for Humans is a heartwarming book by W. Bruce Cameron. It tells the story of a dog who got reincarnated in different doggie lifetimes after his life as a stray was tragically cut short. He met different people along the way, some cared for him while others didn’t. He eventually meets a boy named Ethan, who called him Bailey. They were separated once more when Bailey passes on, but Bailey found Ethan again in another lifetime as a different dog. Ethan became his life’s purpose.

The story is told through the perspective of the dog. For a dog-lover and owner, the situations the dog encountered were familiar. It makes you wonder… Maybe that’s what my dogs are thinking! Cameron really knew how to get into a dog’s psyche.

This book really made me smile and tear up until the very end. I could not help but remember all the dogs I’ve had since childhood, wondering that maybe they’re somehow still with me. A Dog’s Purpose made me look back and relive all the wonderful times I’ve had with my pets who’ve passed on, and once again appreciate all the love they’ve given me. 🙂

A Dog’s Purpose is a must-read for all dog-lovers. It’s definitely worth having on your bookshelf — something to read over and over again!

I got my copy of A Dog’s Purpose from Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street. I’m guessing you also can get a copy of it from their other branches. It’s probably available in National Bookstore also, but I haven’t checked. I suggest calling their customer service hotline to be sure.
