New house: A new dog territory!

Sorry for the lack of updates. My family (both humans and dogs) just transferred to a new home here in lower Antipolo in Rizal. It’s been quite stressful for all of us—even the dogs. I think Shantee’s the only one who didn’t find it stressful at all, just another great adventure.

Dog marking territory

I’ve had dogs for as long as I could remember, and I always knew that huge changes like moving can be very stressful for them—especially when our dogs were used to having a run of the house. Read the rest of this entry »

Shantee on Rated K and a trip to Manila Zoo

Last Thursday, Shantee and Peter joined several other animals for a pet event Rated K is holding for their Valentines’ Day TV special. It’s going to be aired this coming Sunday, February 10, at 6:30PM on ABS-CBN. I’d love to say more about it, but it’s better you just watch it first. It’s really cute, promise :)
Shantee with an alligator!

Shantee and Peter met a LOT new “friends,” though I don’t think Shantee liked the alligator at all. Hehe. We have more behind-the-scenes photos with Shantee’s new animal friends, but posting them before the feature could ruin the surprise :) So for now, we’ll just show you a few snapshots of Shantee’s first ever (and probably the last) trip to Manila Zoo. Shantee’s first Holiday celebrations

Shantee survived her first-ever New Year celebration. Actually, I even think she took it in stride, although she was really scared of sparklers :P I guess all that light was so new to her.

Shantee staying away from sparklers

That’s me with Shantee lighting a sparkler about an hour before the New Year celebration went all crazy. Turned out, she didn’t like sparklers unlike Coal the Labrador Retriever—Dad had to keep him on a leash because he wanted to chase after the sparks from the fountain and sparklers Marc and Dad lit. The Grumpler in the Crumpler!

The adorable Grumpler is in the Crumpler logo:

The Grumpler Dog in the Crumpler logo

Shantee was already getting grumpy and pissy by the time we took this pic yesterday at Serendra in Bonificio Global City. The sales ladies were kind enough to let Shantee pose on their huge logo sculpture outside the Crumpler store, and it wasn’t just because Marc bought a ridiculously expensive camera-laptop backpack from them. They found her cute, even if she was already getting grumpy. I guess Shantee was tired by that time and wanted to get some beauty sleep :P
This pic is one of my favorite Shantee photos so far—a grumpy-looking dog in the Crumpler logo :D Anyhoo, click here if you’d like to see more of Shantee’s morning adventure in Serendra!

Do dogs dream?

They do. Well, that’s what Shantee’s vet said at least. And I think I’ll have to agree. Shantee’s not the first dog Marc and I have seen “talking” in their sleep.

Choknat, Sheero and Harry sleeping and in dreamland

I have a lot of dogs, and some of them sleep near me at night when I’m working. It’s just hard not to notice that some of them do “talk” in their sleep. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s in a pet’s name?

Do you carefully choose your pet’s name?

We do now. But I have to admit that we didn’t before. Our pets’ names mostly pertained to the animal’s physical characteristics—I think the corniest one ever was “Brownie” for a brown dog, while her black-colored companion we called “Blackie.” My dad remembered being so embarrassed giving the dogs’ names when he brought them to the vet. Since then, he asked me and my sister to think of better names for our pets—he was the one who usually brought the animals to the vet anyway. :D
Some of our pets still have funny names. But at least they’re thought-off. Take Kutonbol for an example. She was the only white dog among her batch of Sheero’s litter, and the only one who had took on most of her askal father’s characteristics. She was white as a cotton ball, but as “askal-ish” as you can think of. So we gave her a name that represented just both those qualities: an askaled version of “cotton ball.” Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome, Shantee!

Join the Pinoy Dog-Lover gang in welcoming the newest member of our family, Shantee!

Little Shantee

Shantee is an Imperial Shih Tzu (or commonly called here in the Philippines as “Princess type” Shih Tzu), more than two months old. She’s as feisty as our darling Sheero, but way friendlier (Sheero had snobby tendencies hehe). All of our other dogs like her—Choknat and Harry seem to take her under their wing. Goodbye, my beloved Sheero

Sheero passed away last Friday, 26 October 2007 at 6:25pm. She had a cardiac arrest leading to a coma, which in turn led to her passing.

I can’t tell you how much pain I am in right now. I wouldn’t even try to.

Sheero, I love you.
