Doggie Day Fair 2

Run with both your human and dog family at the Good Housekeeping Family Fun Run

Guess who’s running at the Good Housekeeping Family Fun Run this Sunday at the Manila Ocean Park? Me and Shantee! ๐Ÿ˜€ Shantee’s so excited she just had to have a “dress rehearsal” of her race bandana:

My husband Marc will be running with Kubrick… He didn’t really plan on going initially, so he’d be able to take videos and pictures of me and Shantee while we run. But Kubrick would be so sad and hurt if we left him at home with my sister… So there, he’s going too! ๐Ÿ˜€ Continue Reading

I’m running for CARA :)

This post was filed under Fundraisers and Drives.

On Sunday, 20 March 2011, I’ll be running my first-ever 42k race, The Bull Runner Dream Marathon in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The feat itself is already memorable, but I want to make the experience even more meaningful. I think it’s pretty obvious that I love animals, so what’s better than combining two things I love? Running + animals ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m taking this opportunity to help raise funds for CARA, through a small personal project: Dreaming of a FURfect Marathon.

I would like to invite you to pledge to donate a minimum of One Peso (Php1.00) for every kilometer I complete during the race. If I finish all 42.2 kilometers, the adorable cats and dogs of CARA will receive Php42.20 from you. This minimal amount would be enough to buy a small pouch of dog or cat food. Your help will go a long way. Rest assured, every single peso from this fund-raiser will go straight to CARA — no strings attached ๐Ÿ™‚

More details can be found on the Run for CARA website I put up just for this project.

Yay, we won tickets!!!

This post was filed under Pet Events in the City.

Yup, you read it right: we won tickets!!! Two movie tickets to the advanced 3d screening of Cats and Dogs 2: Revenge of Kitty Galore on August 18!!! That’s tomorrow!!!! WEEE!!!!!! Shantee is so my lucky charm ๐Ÿ˜€

We actually got there a bit late, spending way too much time waiting at Pet Express so Shantee could get a bath. We missed the “Pack Leader Talk” by PETiks Atbp., but we were able to watch a game of musical sit and stay by smart dogs and an obstacle course run by energetic pooches. But tickets weren’t the only stuff we won:

Thanks to for this pic!

Shantee got two boxes of COSI Pet’s Milk for being sooooo adorably dressed! Dog Fashionista FTW!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Many thanks to for such a fun day. It was Shantee’s first time in Ali Mall, and she had so much fun too! It was a bit weird going around with Shantee there, as Ali Mall didn’t used to allow pets inside. The event that day was also Ali Mall’s way of showing everyone they’re now pet-friendly. And we’re so glad they are, as Ali Mall is now being added to Shantee’s “go to” places ๐Ÿ™‚

By the way, today is the last leg of the Cats and Dogs 2 Mall tour. Head over NOW to SM North EDSA Sky Garden, and get your own chance to win tickets to this PAWsome movie! More details here.

Doggie Day Out by PAWS Aspin Club

This post was filed under Pet Events in the City.

So many dog events… I love it! ๐Ÿ˜€ Here’s another one from our friends at PAWS:

Hopefully, we’ll be able to bring Popoy along for the event. He’s my sister’s favorite aspin. We wanted him to be part of the club, but we had to miss the first meeting and registration because of a scheduled trip. The PAWS Aspin Club registration booth will open at 11am — this is our second chance! I just hope my husband and I won’t be too tired to go.

If you’d like to be part of the PAWS Aspin Club, take note of the following:

  • Updated vaccination records must be presented upon registration
  • Dogs must be friendly to humans and other dogs
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times when attending club events
  • Female dogs must NOT be in heat when attending club events
  • Php250 club registration fee will support the PAWS Animal Shelter

PAWS Aspin Club will be held on 7 August 2010 from 11:00AM to 3:30PM at Eastwood Central Plaza. See you there!

Daddy’s Pet: A Father’s Day Pet Event

This post was filed under Pet Events in the City.

Lookie here, another event for pet-lovers!

Daddy’s Pet: A Father’s Day Pet Event will be held on 27 June 2010 (it’s this Sunday!) from 10am to 5pm at One Esplanade in Pasay City. There will be lots activities for day: pet grooming area, bazaar, a fashion show, training area, special performances, arts and crafts, pet adoption, and an animal welfare forum with Compassion And Responsibility for Animals (CARA). Dads will have a pampering area, and can even participate in a special dad-and-pet mini-Olympics!

Hopefully, Marc and I can participate in this event along with Shantee and Kubrick! ๐Ÿ˜€

Aqua Toy’s much-needed bath

This post was filed under My Dogs.

This is Aqua Toy, Kubrick’s favorite dog toy, hanging to dry:

Aqua Toy squeaks, squawks and pretty much just lays there whenever Kubrick feels the need to chew and play. The poor thing has already turned an ugly shade of very dark brown from its original color of yellow. Kubrick barked and whined, but no, Aqua Toy needs to take a bath!

Kubrick is very possessive of this dog toy, a gift originally meant for Shantee from my friend Nina. I guess it was his only “friend” when he first came here and Shantee thought it best to just ignore him so he’d eventually disappear. My Shih Tzus are long past the stage of getting-to-know-you, but Kubrick still hangs on to Aqua Toy.

This isn’t the first time Aqua Toy took a bath — the first one being the aftermath of Ondoy, when my husband and I thought it unhygienic and unhealthy for Kubrick to chew on a dog toy that was recently drenched in flood water. Kubrick was so happy when he got Aqua Toy back, it was like a one-sided gleeful reunion between two old friends. I’m pretty sure he’ll react the same when Aqua Toy emerges clean and yellow from the hanger tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Battling the sweltering summer heat

This post was filed under Pet Care.

One of the best things about living in a tropical country is never having to worry about preparing for the cold winter. Here in the Philippines, there are only two seasons: wet and dry seasons. We usually have to worry about is water-proofing our houses from the constant rains and typhoons during the rainy season. Floods are always a great tragedy.

Preparing for the summer season is almost always frequently overlooked. For us humans, summer usually means two months of fun days under the sun. But for our funny friends, itโ€™s not only uncomfortable, but could also be a matter of life and death.

Since our family donโ€™t go out too often during the summer (me and my husband love to travel, but the summer heat is just too overwhelming), weโ€™ve come up with a list of โ€œto-doโ€™sโ€ for our dogs so that they would be comfortable during the summer. Continue Reading
