Doggie Day Fair 2

Doggies and pet parents raise funds for CARA Welfare Philippines at the Bow & Wow Benefit Dinner

This post was filed under Pinoy Dog-Lover's Journal.

Last Saturday, Shantee, my husband Marc and I went to the poshest doggie event we ever attended: the Bow & Wow Benefit Dinner for CARA Welfare Philippines!

We didn’t think we’d make it… It was such a busy day: we left Shantee at the groomer’s while we attended the baptism of Marc’s niece. Call time for the dinner was 6:30pm, at that time, we were still on our way to Marikina from Quezon Avenue to pick up Shantee and drop off the in-laws. I considered texting my contact at Bow & Wow to say we might not be able to make it, but I couldn’t. Shantee was so looking forward to the event — she had a Doodles Paw Couture gown to show off — and I just didn’t have the heart to not be there for something that I fully and truly support.

By the time we got there, it was nearly the end of a magic show of sorts. Too bad we weren’t able to catch it! But then again, Shantee probably wouldn’t have cared less for the show anyway… She had her eyes set on the scrumptious doggie buffet Bow & Wow and Swell Sweets prepared for the pooches!

Shantee loves Merrick dog food, so I got her a little bit of everything. We knew she was probably hungry (last time she ate was breakfast), but she scuffed down the food like she hasn’t been fed for an entire week! Apparently, her gorgeous gown by Doodles Paw Couture didn’t come with table manners — she probably has one of the prettiest doggie gowns there, but she ate like savage beast πŸ˜› She just loved the food!

After Shantee finished stuffing her face with all the Merrick and doggie pastries she could eat, Marc suggested we walk a bit and check the place out. We humans weren’t very hungry, but the food was good! Looking at some of other people’s photos, we probably missed a few dishes because we were late. But we didn’t mind, we already had our fill at the baptism reception, and that night was all for Shantee πŸ™‚

Shantee was just newly groomed before we got to the event, but we couldn’t resist checking out Aroma Pet Spa‘s grooming setup in the venue. Since she didn’t need anymore grooming, the nice man and lady at the booth just gave Shantee some sweet-smelling doggie cologne. She smelled so good when I left her with Marc at our table… As usual, Shantee was being her bratty self: she wouldn’t let me take photos of other dogs, she kept getting in the way of my camera whenever I tried to. Marc and Shantee had their dessert while I walked around and took β€œpawparazzi” shots of doggies I met.

You can find a lot of my doggie pics in Dog Fashionista (check it out, your dog might even be there!), but these big boys were my favorite! They were big, but very friendly. After they lost interest figuring out what was behind the door, they decided they wanted to have their photo taken! πŸ™‚

So cute! These two gamely posed for my camera, while their barong-clad companion was a bit camera-shy — the ones I got of him were mostly of his fluffy behind πŸ˜›

Shantee had probably the most fun hanging out by the entrance, where people noticed her. Well, what can I say? Our dog is vain! πŸ˜› But of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a photo op with Miss Tessa Prieto – Valdez. The Dog Fashionista meets the human fashionista! (I think Shantee felt overshadowed by Miss Tessa’s elaborate hat though. Hehe)

To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention at the program πŸ˜› But Marc said there was a fashion-show-like β€œWalk of Love” with pet parents and their dogs, as well as CARA volunteers showing off adorable rescues hoping to find their forever homes that evening. Prizes were given away to best-dressed dog and pet parent, as well as the cutest family in attendance. There was also a silent auction, where all the proceeds also went to CARA πŸ™‚

It was certainly a fun night for all of us, but can you believe all these were actually for CARA Welfare Philippines? Every single ticket sale went to their organization, amounting to Php450,000. But even better, Bow & Wow’s owners added another Php100,000 — just like that! It’s not surprising Miss Nancy Cu Unjieng was teary-eyed when they told her that… I myself couldn’t help feeling happy for them too. With the staggering monthly cost of rehabilitating 200++ Pit Bulls rescued from a dog-fighting syndicate in Laguna, the generous donations given by Bow & Wow and the dinner guests will certainly go along way.

I’m so happy for them. They’ve been working so hard for the animals, it’s hard not to.

I don’t often see glamorous pets and pet parents getting together in one night for a great cause. Kudos to every single person (and dog) who took part in the benefit dinner: you just gave a CARA rescue a second chance in life; a chance to find a forever home he might never had before.

We here at Pinoy Dog-Lover and Dog Fashionista are more than honored to have been online media partners of Bow & Wow’s Benefit Dinner for CARA. Thank you so much for letting us be part of this wonderful and generous endeavor πŸ™‚
